Welcome to my site about the Salem Witch Trials! I made this site for a project in my Digital History class this summer. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning how to create a site, and I have enjoyed compiling all the information about the Trials. When I was younger and thought about the Trials, or any other event that happened before my time, I had a hard time realizing that this actually happened. I feel like we forget that, sometimes. Things that happened in history can be so hard to grasp. It was hard for me to wrap my mind around the fact that George Washington and Abraham Lincoln were real people, they did real things. Roanoke was an actual colony that literally disappeared with only the word “Croatoan” carved into a tree. Events like these can sometimes be hard to grasp, much like the Trials. My research has helped me feel connected to the people from Salem and helped me find logical reasons for what happened. I want to be able to share that with you. I want you to know that these people were real. The ones executed were innocent of any real crime, and they died because of the accusations against them. There are so many possible explanations for why the “afflicted” girls did what they did, and I want to share those explanations with you. I had a teacher that always said “good history is intellectual history,” and he always pushed us to understand that people in history are not just stick figures, they are real. I want to be able to share this and hopefully, you will come to love the history behind the Trials the way that I have.
P.S. If anyone has any comments or feedback on how I can make my site better, please feel free to let me know at [email protected]!
