MARY WARREN
Mary Warren was the servant of John Proctor. She was twenty years old at the time of the Trials. She joined the young girls as one of the afflicted. One of her fits was so violent that her legs could not be uncrossed without breaking them (Hansen, 62). John Proctor would threaten to beat the fits out of her. That could be a reason the Proctors were accused of witchcraft.
Mary lost her parents before the Salem Witch Trials. The stress could have caused her to not be able to tell the difference between reality and hallucination. This could be why she accused so many people during the Trials. It is suggested that when she started to realize the difference between her reality and hallucination, the other girls became angry. This led to her being accused as a witch. While she was being examined she accused thirteen other witches (Norton, 323).
Not much is known about Mary Warren after the Trials.
